A Suitable Habitat
I’m going to ask some questions for you to ask yourselves. These are questions I ask myself. I often examine myself to see if I am living up to the standard God expects me to. Of course, I can always find weaknesses, but seeing those weak places allows me to focus on improving them.
Are you a suitable habitat for the Holy Spirit of God?
I’m not speaking of the condition of the body but the condition of the person.
The Scripture teaches, And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30
If we do love as the verse tells us, then we are a suitable habitat for the Holy Spirit. To answer this question honestly, we will have to do some serious thinking.
What does my day generally look like? Am I constantly complaining? Is everything drudgery and burdensome? What is the focus of my mind as I go through my day? Do I most often focus on wants and desires, events, sports, money, acquiring things, how I feel? Or do I go through my day chatting with God and praying often? When I see a prayer request or a need for prayer in someone’s life, do I stop and pray right then, or do I put it off and then forget it?
If I love my Lord with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength, then my heart begins to take on the traits of God, and God’s image in my thoughts and understanding becomes immense. The fact is if I am a follower of the Lord God, then the smaller I become in my mind. Are we not told to come to God as children? A child goes to its father understanding that the father is far more capable than itself.
As a matter of fact, a child will see no limitations in the father at all, and as Christians this is how our minds must see God! What good does it do to pray if you do not believe God is capable of resolving what we are asking for? Would you pray to your wallet for more money? No, because you know it is not capable of producing the desired outcome.
The point I’m making is that when you pray, you must understand God has the ability to make it happen. (Note: Praise more than you ask.)
The truth is, if I am a suitable Habitat for the Holy Spirit, then the Holy Spirit will dwell within me. There is an odd happening when we find ourselves in the state of Loving the Lord God with everything we are. We will have a sense of being virtually nothing in comparison to God, yet we will gain a sense of great value at the same time.
The Bible teaches for us to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. This is what happens when our Love for God is complete in all areas of our lives.
Now, I can’t speak for everyone, but I had to get to the place where I said to God, “no more me.” I believe that in order for a person to honestly Love the Lord God with all their Heart, Mind, Soul, and Strength, a person must completely sell out to God in everything and in all ways! My life changed drastically when I did this.
I had many happy times in my life and achieved some substantial accomplishments, but I had never known Joy until I sold out to God. Just for the record, happiness compared to joy is like comparing a dime to a billion dollars—there is no comparison!
I pray that all who read this would completely surrender to God and come to know the blessings I now know.
