Pride

Pride is thought by the majority of theologians to be the most heinous of the seven deadly sins in God’s eye. Why? Pride is the sin that Lucifer committed which caused him to be cast from Heaven. It is also the most disruptive in the life of a Believer.

Scripture tells us that Lucifer was the most beautiful of all the angels when he was cast out of Heaven, at least that is the common understanding.

Scripture points out that Lucifer had charge of the music in Heaven, and although it does not say he was made of musical instruments, there is some indication that at least a portion of him was of musical instruments.

This can be found in Ezekiel 28. Scripture also states that he was adorned with beautiful stones. God speaks of Lucifer’s creation and how wonderfully he was made.

In Ezekiel 28, we also understand that Lucifer became prideful of his position, beauty, wisdom, and authority, and he believed he deserved the same recognition and had the same authority as God.

So Lucifer’s iniquity got him cast out of Heaven. It is commonly understood that the Pride of Satan was the first Sin.

Why do I explain all this? So that the reader may understand where pride came from and why so many learned Clergy believe it to be the most heinous of all the sins.

Proverbs 16 tells us that “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Not only is pride a pathway to destruction, it is a hindrance and roadblock. A prideful man will cease to learn, believing that he is above the gaining of knowledge from others.

A prideful man will become self-reliant, trusting upon his own understanding and not leaning on the teachings of God nor on those chosen by God to teach or preach.

Remember this? “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” In 2 Chronicles 7, Pridefulness and Humbleness cannot coexist.

Humbleness is good in the eyes of the Lord and pride is hateful in His eye. Pride cannot stand in the presence of God! If God will cast the most glorious angel that He created out of Heaven for becoming prideful, then a prideful person cannot enter into Heaven—pride has no place in the presence of the Lord.

A place of eternal punishment was created by God for those who are prideful, and they will be placed there for eternity and there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I can only imagine how hated the sight of a prideful person that claims to be Christian must be in the sight of God!

I recently read a short cartoon that was filled with the truth of God’s Word. In it, one character said, “You know, people are praying all over the country for God to Heal our Nation,” then the other character said, “I think God is waiting on them to humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways!”

And that dear friend is exactly what God is waiting for!

I pray this gives some insight on the sin of pride and how it should not be tolerated in our Churches or in our own lives, just as God will not accept it in His presence or allow it to enter Heaven!

Humble yourselves, dear Brothers and Sisters, so that our prayers may be heard in Heaven. Amen
