The trap of a Thousand lies

Do you have a ministry or position in the body of Christ Jesus? Maybe you are a pastor of a church congregation or a teacher of the word, an Evangelist, a missionary, a deacon, a committee member or some position. Maybe you have a disciple's heart.

What do all these have in common, you ask? A desire to serve — if you truly do!

Allow me to clear the air on something, there are many that only wish to have a title but have no true desire to serve. But if you do have that desire, then waiting for you is the adversary’s trap of a thousand lies.

Surely if you have been called or chosen to one of the aforementioned positions, you can no doubt compile a laundry list of things you believe you need to do, and the longer you are involved and give thought to your position the longer the list will become.

The verses of scripture have purpose for many situations throughout our lives, and in Romans we are told that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Oh we do have good intentions don’t we? Matter of fact, our good intentions often lead us into a desire to become somehow righteous. In Romans 3 we are told none are righteous, no not one! (Are you starting to see the trap?

In John, we are told by the Lord “without me you can do nothing!”

In Hebrews 12 we are told to remove our extra weight (that which encumbers us) and the sin that besets us so that we can continue our race. We are not supposed to heap burdens on ourselves nor complicate that in which we are to do.

Our lists become distractions, they manifest into busy work, and methods of either self edification or effort focused on fulfilling outside expectations. When this happens we have lost sight of our goal, we no longer press toward the mark or fight the good fight.

I see this happen all the time… folks that start off with a good intention get caught up in this trap of a thousand lies and it distracts them so much they spend no time with God or no time in the word, and most often they totally forget to allow themselves daily quiet time contemplating God and being still so they can hear from the Holy Spirit!

When this happens we are no longer doing the work of the Lord. We have done nothing more than invent a job for ourselves!

Our focus must be on God at all times! If we love the Lord with all our heart, all our mind and all our soul, then He will be our focus, first, last and always. It is when we become redirected and fall for the wiles of the devil do we fail.

A man once said “I was on my way to the savior and ran into service, I ran into service and never got to the Savior.”

In summary: if you have a ministry that you were either called to or a position you were elected to, keep your focus, keep your eye on the prize and maintain your focus on God and serving His Kingdom. Always remembering that we battle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities and powers of the air and spiritual wickedness in high places.

The adversary wants to render you useless and keep you from serving the Lord.

So remain diligent, pray, read the Holy Word of God meditating on it while being quiet so that you may hear from the Holy Spirit.
