To The Unknown God (Part 2)

As I covered in part 1, I feel that many that call themselves Christians are praying and attempting to worship a God they do not know at all.

Yes, I do understand that people believe in God but never take the time or put forth any effort to know Him. The Scripture says in Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” All we need to do is open our eyes and look around to begin to know God.

Reading our Bible will teach us who we serve, worship, and pray to. God proclaims His identity in Colossians 1:15-21, 15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 for by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 and he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;

20 and, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

21 And you, that were sometimes alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.”

I explained some of the complexities of God in part 1; here, I will cover God’s love for us. To begin with, we will start with a verse that is often read over but never considered in deeper thought. Genesis 2:7, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Let’s take a hard look at the last half of this verse.

God breathed into Adam a living soul. This indicates that we came from God Himself. We were not waiting in some holding area seeking a body. God breathed us into a body just as He did Adam. How can I say this? Well, God said He was the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

There is a verse in Malachi where God says He never changes. Malachi 3:6, "I am the Lord, and I do not change." Therefore, if God never changes, we can fully understand that how a soul enters a body is the same as the first time. This confirms some scriptures on God loving us. In Jeremiah 1:5 we read, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”

This verse teaches us of God’s knowledge of us before we were born, and before we were formed in the womb God loved us: Psalm 139:13-18, 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hidden from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.”

God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on a cross that we might return to Him through the Blood of Christ. We who have accepted the atoning death of Christ have been redeemed, purchased from the wickedness of sin by the greatest sacrifice.

Learning these truths should give us all a great desire to know who God truly is and instill in us a desire to draw close to Him through His Holy Word.

I pray that all who read this gain a deep yearning to know God in much more depth than they have known before. Amen.

“The main reason people speak against the Bible is because the Bible speaks against their lifestyle.”
