A Morning With the Lord

I know many who will read this have a morning prayer time and many often read the Word of God in the mornings.

We that do understand there are times our morning prayers bring forth an unexpected time of great blessing, awareness and presence of the Lord. This morning has been one of those times for me.

As I stood on my back porch after my prayer time contemplating the Word, I felt as if the Holy Spirit hung heavy around me, opening my eyes to everything.

I gazed down the hollow behind my house and watched as deer walked stealthily single file through the forest trail toward the green grass of the hollow.

I could hear turkeys gobbling on the hill, also making their way down. The birds were busy moving about building nests and catching insects.

A hawk sat in a tree above the hollow waiting on the occasional mouse or rat to wander out so it could feed its young. Springtime in the Southeast is a busy time and a majestic time for sure.

I reveled in the peacefulness and beauty of it all, remembering a scripture that told of God knowing every sparrow.

A thought passed through my mind, “What would be my last sight of this earth before my soul and body were separated? Would it be a sight so wonderful as this or would it be looking up from a bed in some form of infirm condition? No matter, I was able to see this today and that in itself was enough.

I have heard many speak of these things as the magic of Spring, when in fact it is the Majesty of God! We do not need to look far to see God in His creation.

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Even in the great cities of our country you can see the Hand of God in His creation, the birds gather, build nests, breed, raise their young, and survive.

Small animals scurry about, often unseen by those who have busied themselves past the point of sight. Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Sadly, mankind has strayed from the very creation that was made for him. Many build massive hives of concrete and steel and gather in unbelievable numbers and they themselves become like mounds of termites with only the routine of food and shelter a question.

It becomes a competition of basic survival and a heartless existence instead of being a joyful and purposeful gathering. Even in smaller cities and rural areas this has overcome the minds of men. There is so much more than the so called “daily grind”.

Look up and out, Brothers and Sisters, and see God! Seek His face in His creation. I believe we must continuously remind ourselves of the Majesty of God.

Refocusing on the truly important which is the love God has for us, and the gift of our Savior who has risen that we may live in paradise forever and ever.

If we have received Salvation we were given the gift of the Holy Spirit. What we must understand is the Holy Spirit will not shut us down. We must be still and quiet so that we may hear that small, still voice of God.

We were created from the dust of the very earth that God created for us, yet many try and try to stray as far away from God’s creation as possible.

These people have no idea of the blessings they are missing. God used animals many times throughout the Bible. The dove returned to Noah with the olive branch, ravens fed Elijah, a donkey spoke to Balaam, a great fish was used to teach Jonah to go to Nineveh, Jesus is referred to as a Lion and a Lamb.

Many times all through the Scripture eagles are referenced. Adam’s first directive from God was to name the animals.

All of what we tend to call “nature” is the creation of God and He can be seen in all of it, if we would only look. One of my favorite experiences I love to tell about is of my horse Dan and a rabbit.

I had a very large draft horse and one day I had given him his hay and his sweet feed in the trough. A few minutes later while Dan was eating, I noticed a small rabbit standing close to Dan’s huge hoof, eating what Dan had dropped.

My first thought was that if he stepped in that direction the rabbit would be crushed as Dan weighed around 2,200 pounds.

No sooner had the thought passed through my mind when Dan raised his head and looked down at the rabbit, then moved his foot in the opposite direction.

When he put his head back in the feed trough, he pushed some feed out of the trough and onto the ground where the rabbit was eating.

I realized this massive animal had not only noticed the tiny creature, but had given it safety and intentionally provided it with food; this is seeing God in His creation. We say God is love. Love is caring and kindness, and that is exactly what I had observed.

I think we too easily forget that God can be seen and observed, all we have to do is look.

The more we see Him, the more we will want to be in His presence, and the more we are in his presence, the more we will desire to serve Him.
