Blessings
I was standing on the porch after my evening prayer in my quiet time with God, when a firefly slowly flew across my line of sight, flashing its light. My mind began to flood with thoughts.
This insect, this small portion of my Father’s creation has brought great joy to multitudes of children and adults alike. Millions of children have chased and wondered at these bugs that were created by God.
Parents, grandparents, and older siblings have smiled and laughed watching children frolic after this bug in the twilight. How many fond memories can be associated with this creature of God? But these thoughts and memories of joy are not solely to the firefly, children's laughter, the baby's cooing, the smell of a puppy, and the playfulness of all young animals.
There are many others that we tend to take for granted, never stopping to realize the gift of their existence. I think we are generally thankful for the big things and recognize them, but we fail to see the small things and never give thanks for them as well.
Some may think it silly, or even think me small-minded for giving praise to our Heavenly Father for the fireflies, but everything good comes from the Father and we should be thankful for it! In this, we give glory to God!
The next time you see a child playing, or a rabbit hopping around, or any portion of creation and it brings a smile to your face or a chuckle, even a fond memory, give thanks to the Lord God. it is He and He alone that has given that gift.
In Psalm 46, a verse tells us “Be still and know that I am God”. The Lord God has shown me that this one short verse has a broadness of meaning. It has come to me in times of grieving, in times of a troubled heart, in times of confusion, and in times of observance.
My wife and I have big dogs and our big male snores when he sleeps. The sound is a deep rumbling much as you might think of a grizzly bear hibernating might sound.
His snoring brings us an odd comfort and many times when he is sleeping one of us will look to the other and say, “I love to hear this baby snore.” Yep, again you may think this silly or simple-minded, but is silliness not a form of joy as well as comfort? If we make ourselves still enough we will find those small daily things that bring joy.
If I am still, I can hear from Heaven, and if I can realize the small blessings and give thanks, I have become close to God. If I am still and wish to give Glory to God, then it is well with my soul. In Proverbs 23:7 the word says “As a man thinks in his heart, so is He.”
I pray that you can be still and see the Grace and Glory of God. Hearing the Holy Spirit and growing in your faith. Amen
