Who

Who is God to you? Is He the God of creation, the Omnipotent all powerful God? Is He everything to you? Or is He some distant person that you just somehow believe exists but know nothing about?

Allow me to help you understand just a bit of who God is. El Shaddai, the all powerful God, created everything you have ever known or ever will know or could ever know! I heard a statement one time that said “God creates and the devil invents”.

Let me explain… some might say, “Well, God did not create the car I drive or the clothes I wear”, or this or that. No, but He did create everything that the car was made of, and the minds of the men/women that designed and built it! God is in everything. He is not some distant God; He exists in all things!

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created Heaven and the Earth.

(I highly recommend you read through the creation story in Genesis along with this commentary.)

When I was in high school, Physics was my favorite subject. As a matter of fact, I think if I had had the opportunity to attend more advanced classes in Physics, I might have become a physicist because I enjoyed it so much. Little did I know that love for the subject was training for where I am in my life today.

How about a brief physics lesson. Let’s understand the most simple atom, the helium atom, consists of one proton, one neutron, and one electron.

The proton and neutron make up the nucleus of the atom and the electron orbits the nucleus making up a single atom in the atomic structure of helium.

To thoroughly explain atomic structure another force must be considered and this force is gravity. What exactly is gravity? You might find it interesting that the thing we call gravity cannot be explained. Many have tried, but we just don’t understand it very well and honestly don’t know how it works, except that it is the binding force in all things.

God in His infinite ability maintains the exact balance of gravity that holds even the atomic structure of all things together. That simple helium atom has to have the perfect balance of gravity or the nucleus would separate and the electron would fly off into space.

If you don’t know, the act of the nucleus separating is called nuclear fission and would cause an atomic explosion! So in fact, GOD IS IN EVERYTHING! In fact, physicists and Christians have a lot in common in that both are attempting to know God more deeply. It is at this time I might start making some scientists angry, but it’s true nonetheless!

Earlier in this writing I quoted a statement, “God creates and the devil invents''. Neither mankind nor the devil can create anything!

We and the devil can only come up with ways to utilize what God has created! Once when I made this proclamation, a scientist (a genetic biologist) who worked for a company that is well known for genetically modifying plants, was presented with a leaf from a tree and asked if he could make a tree from the leaf.

His reply was an emphatic, “Yes!”,  but when presented with a clear lexan box that had 4 lbs of vacuum pulled inside and asked if he could make the same tree from the contents of the box, his reply was, “Of course not!” When asked why not his reply was, “Because there isn’t anything to work with in there.

He could use what God had created and duplicate through a scientific process what God had created, but he could not create something from nothing, and that is exactly what God did!

A scripture we all have heard contains a very important factor in this, “for God so loved the world”. God loves His creation so much that His only begotten Son was sacrificed for our sins so that we could be with him in paradise for eternity.

In closing, I think the best explanation of gravity is that Gravity is God’s love. It is the Love God has for His creation and is the force that binds all things! So the next time you sing or hear that grand old hymn “How Great Thou Art”, and you hear the verse that begins “Oh, Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder”, my prayer is that this writing causes you to have a much deeper wonder than just the words in a song, that somehow you now are truly in awe of “Who” God is and how Great our Father in heaven is, and was, and is to come!

May the Holy Spirit be present in your day. If you are lost, I pray the Spirit convicts you and you turn to the Lord in belief and repentance.

Praise be to God in the highest and Glory to His Holy Name!
